About Us

Australian Academy of Music has a long tradition of teaching music and providing resources for music teachers and schools since 1967. Our teaching facility in Brendale currently teaches in excess of 300 students every week. Around 70% of our students are children or young adults and 30% of our students are adults. Whether your musical aspirations are to be a professional muso, prepare for exams and auditions or to play for relaxation and fun.

Please visit our lessons page for more information on our teachers and lessons.

We love music! We love sharing music, making music and teaching music. Staff at the Australian Academy of Music include the 2nd and 3rd generation of the Morris family. John Morris Snr and Averil Morris opened the doors of the Australian Academy of Music in Spring Hill in 1967. They offered music lessons and sold instruments and accessories. Averil worked behind the counter and taught organ and John Snr. taught woodwind.

Nearly 50 years on sees John Morris Jnr with son Mitchell Morris working hard in our on site workshop. A qualified band instrument repairer, John services woodwind and brass instruments for schools, students and professional musicians, teaches drums and saxophone in our studios, and his expertise is woodwind and brass information and sales.

Mitchell studied to be a luthier in the USA. He builds, repairs, and services guitars, violins and cellos as well as most other folk instruments. In addition, he has recently been trained in Italy for piano accordion repair.

Please visit our repairs page for more information on all of our repair services.

Lesley Morris is the administrator of the music school and can be found most days helping clients with lessons, print music orders, accessories and instrument sales.

John and Lesley's oldest son, Jason Morris, is a passionate member of the band Hushka, as well as a solo artist, and is very active in the Brisbane music scene. He is your go-to guy for professional, detailed information and help with digital pianos, drum kits, guitars and amps.

Music is our life! All members of the Morris family and everyone in our teaching staff are active musicians. We all perform in a variety of genres including professional bands, community bands, professional and community orchestras, cabaret performers and soloists. Many of our staff are recording artists and can be found on iTunes and YouTube. Because we live music, we have a vast network of resources and experience. Our professional partnering with companies such as Yamaha, Majestic Percussion, Tanglewood, Jupiter, Shure, Vic First, Remo, Zildjian, D'Addario, Elixir, Van Doren, Hal Leonard, KOS and Alfred Publishing enables us to provide clients with the very best instruments, print music and accessories available in Australia today.
