The Australian Academy of Music is a Queensland owned, family run business with a rich history of helping people achieve their musical dreams. As soon as you enter our shop in Brendale you will realise how much we love music. From the way we lovingly restore and repair your musical instrument to the dedication we have to your musical education and our vast range of musical equipment and music books.

Our motto is Learn, Love, Live Music

Learn : Our amazing music teachers will teach and inspire you to want to continually grow  musically.

Love:  They say if you do something you love you will never work a day in your life. Although we do work very hard we love what we do and it shows. We especially love passing on our love of music to people like you.

Live : Music is our life- one visit to our community inspired shop run by musicians for musicians and you will see music through our eyes.

We have a long tradition of teaching music and providing resources for music teachers and schools in Brisbane, with John Morris Snr and Averil Morris opening the doors of the first Australian Academy of Music in Spring Hill in 1967. Now based in Brendale and equipped with 11 music studios, an onsite repair workshop and a great range of music products, the Australian Academy of Music is the place to come for all your music needs.

Lessons: Our teaching facility currently teaches in excess of 400 students every week and we cater to all students, no matter the age, whether your musical aspirations are to be a professional musician, prepare for exams and auditions, or to play for relaxation and fun we can help you! We strive to bring out the very best in all our students and offer many fun opportunities throughout the school year for us to all get together and make some music in a relaxed environment. We also host a mid year concert in June and end of year gala show in December, which sees our students expressing themselves in fun and imaginative ways in front of a supportive audience. Our students and bands are also the main draw card on the main music stage at the yearly Pine Rivers Show at the Lawnton Show ground.

Coronavirus Statement Novel Coronavirus (2019-NCoV)

The Australian Academy of Music is taking the threat of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-NCoV) seriously.

We are monitoring government announcements on the virus and although we certainly do not think that staff or students of the Australian Academy of Music are at high risk of contracting the virus, we are taking the following steps to ensure the continued wellbeing of all.

  • We are asking all teachers, staff and students that are showing signs of a cold or flu to stay home and seek medical advice. We are reducing the time period for cancelling a lesson from 24 hours and are now providing make up lessons for students that cancel lessons prior to 9am on week days and 7am on Saturdays
  • Staff are cleaning all surfaces in all studios every day as well as tables and chairs in the waiting areas and all hard surfaces in the retail area.
  • Providing alcohol based hand sanitiser for all staff, teachers and students. Please use it.
  • We will follow all government advice regarding prevention measures and best health practices

I began learning guitar a few years ago while my son was having music lessons at the Australian Academy of Music. I thought to myself, why should he have all the fun, so I started lessons too. I bought myself a beautiful hand made aPurla guitar from their shop as inspiration to keep up with my home practice and I have never looked back. With the encouragement and support of owners John and Lesley as well as countless others, I have so much fun and am improving every day. I feel like one of the family and count the time I spend at the academy as some of the best. Their encouragement for me to perform and play is awesome and I’m excited to keep rocking on.

My 14 year old son started playing electric guitar at home and we enrolled him with Nick at the Academy – it supercharged his skills and confidence and within a year he was performing at “Open Mic” nights. He connects and loves jamming with Nick, he now plays in a band and we could not have asked for any better music family to be part of.

I have been going to the Australian Academy of music for about 3 years now. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. A decision I made for me to learn and grow in my music journey whilst enjoying my more senior years on planet earth. My Guitar and Piano Teacher Rita is a saint having to put up with me and my off and on weeks of practice. The environment is uplifting, friendly and incredibly welcoming. Its lovely to see the age spectrum of the students. When you stay long enough and you see the students teaching the younger ones ….the circle of music life is well and very nourished in this delightful Family Business
